The English edition was published by Pergamon (1983-7), also in five volumes, under the title Comprehensive Chess Endings. The German edition was published in six volumes (with rook endings divided into two volumes) by Sportverlag Berlin (1988-1990)
Occasionally we give a numbered cross-reference to the Averbakh series; these references are based on the German/English editions; in some cases the numbering differs slightly from the Russian edition.
