III. Rubinstein Variation. He subsequently aims to carry out the freeing advance c7-c5 and to eliminate the opponent's spatial advantage (d4 pawn against e6 pawn). Even so, the early exchange of pawns in the centre allows White to deploy his pieces actively, which gives him good chances of obtaining an opening initiative. III. Die Rubinsteinvariante. Bei der soforten Entspannung der Bauern im Zentrum, bekommt Schwarz eine neue Möglichkeit das Problem des „französischen" Läufers aufzulösen. Im weiteren Spiel strebt Schwarz, eine freigebliche Fortsetzung c7-c5 zu verwirklichen und den räumlichen Vorsprung des Mitbewerbers zu liquidieren (der Bauer d4 gegen den Bauer e6). Trotzdem lässt ein früher Bauernwechsel im Zentrum Weiss seine Figure tatkräftigerweise zu stationieren, das eine gute Möglichkeit auf die Eröffnungsinitiative bringt.

III. La variante Rubinstein. Quitando inmediatamente la tensión de peones en el centro, la negras obtienen la posibilidad de resolver el problema eterno del alfil "francés" en c8, abriendo la diagonal a8-hl. Posteriormente las negras tratan de realizar el avance libertador c7-c5 y reducir la ventaja adversa en espacio (el peón d4 contra el peón e6). Sin embargo el cambio anticipado de peones en el centro permite que las blancas logran dislocar activamente sus piezas con buenas perspectivas de capturar iniciativa en la fase de apertura.
